Sadio Mane, a Liverpool winger, has stated that footballers who live flashy lifestyles ‘irritate’ him.
The Senegalese attacker, who has 12 Premier League goals this season, says he likes to isolate himself from a glitzy lifestyle and attributes his humble demeanor to his origins.
Mane recently stated in an interview that he follows Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar on social media, but that ‘that’s enough’ for him.
Liverpool striker Sadio Mane believes certain football beliefs ‘irritate’ him.
When asked if he wants to live like Neymar, Mane replied that following him on social media is ‘enough.’
‘I don’t want to give the appearance that I’m a very critical guy, but there are values in football that upset me a little compared to the upbringing I had,’ Mane told L’Equipe.
‘However, rather than criticizing, I want to detach myself. The important thing is not to change, which I feel I did not do. It’s a huge victory for a boy from a little village.’
He was also asked if he wanted to live like Neymar or Cristiano Ronaldo, to which the Liverpool winger replied emphatically.
‘No!’ said Mane. That is it. I follow them on social media. I admire their extraordinary lifestyle, but I don’t think it’s for me.’
Mane enjoys ‘the fantastic life they lead,’ but does not believe he is cut out for it.
This season, the Senegalese winger has 12 Premier League goals in 25 games.
The 29-year-old also stated that winning the World Cup with his country is his ultimate goal in football.
‘I want to win the World Cup with Senegal,’ Mane stated.
‘First, you must ensure qualifying, but I want to believe in insane ideas, and winning the competition with my country is one of them. Every year, gold.’
Mane played in Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Brighton on Saturday.
