Messi becomes a symbol of support for Argentina’s women’s team to attend the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand

The captain of the Argentina team that won the World Cup in Qatar 2022, Lionel Messi starred this Wednesday in a campaign in support of the Argentina women’s team that will attend the World Cups in Australia and New Zealand, starting next week.

Ten people received replacement t-shirts that the team led by Germán Portanova will use during the tournament that will begin July 20 in Oceania.

According to the brand statement, the campaign is dedicated to “icons of the next generation”: British Alessia Russo, German Lena Oberdorf, and Australian Mary Fowler.

The Argentina Women’s Alternative Shirt is inspired by the Argentine landscape and “the unique feeling of representing the country through a t-shirt for players or fans”, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) explained when introducing its jersey.

It has a base color of black, which creates a combination of orange tones, alluding to the mountains of Northern Argentina, green for the forests and fields present throughout the country, and blue /light blue, representing Patagonia’s rivers, lakes, waterfalls, and glaciers.

“The AERO READY version of the shirt, 100% made in Argentina, provides essential comfort through absorption technology. The AFA says both garments are made with 100% recycled materials.

The players are in Group G along with Sweden, South Africa, and Italy, as determined by a draw held last October in Auckland, the New Zealand capital. The tournament will take place from 20 July to 20 August 2023 and all three of Argentina’s matches will be hosted by New Zealand.
