Harry Maguire is fighting for his future at Old Trafford. The England international is among the players Erik ten Hag is willing to eliminate.

Harry Maguire is reporting to win back his place Manchester United by tackling an intensive training camp in the searing heat of Portugal.

The England center-back is working with legendary defender Ricardo Carvalho as part of a training program consisting of three sessions per day. It has been going on for three weeks so far.

After a season in which he was restricted to just eight Premier League starts, the out-of-sorts 30-year-old is waiting to discuss his future with Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils have already returned to pre-season preparations at their Carrington, but Maguire is still training with Carvalho, as per Fabrizio Romano.

To add an extra tinge of disappointment to a difficult period, it looks as if Bruno Fernandes is set to take Maguire’s captaincy – even if the former Leicester man remains at Old Trafford.

Under Ten Hag, Maguire was mainly used as a backup, with central defenders Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane being the preferred choice. The Man United captain is even behind Victor Lindelof and a left-back like Luke Shaw when Varane and Martinez are absent.
