In recent months, there have been rumors that the PSG forward could join Man United as a “Galactico” signing if Sheikh Jassim were to become manager.
Neymar, a forward for Paris Saint-Germain, has said he plans to remain with the Ligue 1 team for the 2018 campaign.
One of the major transfer window stories of the summer has been what will happen to the Brazilian. After six years, there have been rumors that the 31-year-old will leave Princes Park. Manchester United was one club mentioned in passing earlier this year, should Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim become the new manager at Old Trafford. The Manchester Evening News is aware that such a move under the current government would be extremely unlikely.
Unverified rumors claimed in May that United had spoken to PSG about acquiring the Brazilian, but neither party has provided any real developments since. When questioned about that talk during a press conference near the end of the season, United manager Erik ten Hag played it down.
The question of whether Ten Hag was interested in Neymar the player was posed. “We’ll let you know when we have news,” he retorted.
Rumors started to circulate as the Manchester United takeover issue continued. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, a billionaire from Qatar, is one of the two front-runners in that process. Qatari Sports Investments is the owner of PSG.
In his 20 league games for PSG the previous season, Neymar contributed to 11 goals and 13 goals scored. However, there was media speculation that he was dissatisfied with the club following yet another unsuccessful Champions League campaign. The new PSG manager, Luis Enrique, did not provide any clarification on Neymar’s status when questioned by the media.
Enrique stated: “I haven’t spoken with Neymar yet. Lionel Messi has already left PSG. If he ought to participate in my project? I would like to give you this kind of information, however it is internal information.
After a trip home, Neymar has however returned to social media. The forward’s attention seems to be entirely on going back to PSG and preparing for the upcoming campaign.
