Mason Mount has started his formal preseason workouts as a member of Manchester United. Before playing Leeds in their 2023–24 season opening in Oslo the next week, the Reds have released the first photos of their new midfielder training with his new teammates.

The 24-year-old’s transfer from Chelsea to United was finalized on Wednesday, and he signed a five-year deal with a one-year option.

Manchester United ‘kept strong’ and agreed to a £55 million to £ 60 million deal after Chelsea requested £58 million up front and £7 million in add-ons for their academy graduate.

It became clear some months ago that I wasn’t in Chelsea’s future plans, Mount said to MUTV. My choice was set as soon as I found out that United was involved.

“I wanted to be a part of this enormous club right away because it has hosted a number of renowned athletes. My top priorities also included arriving early and being ready for the start of preseason.

The photos from Mount’s first training session are shown here.

Less than two years after moving to Carrington, the former Manchester United academy star has returned to his hometown team.

Former Manchester United academy graduate Manni Norkett has completed a transfer to Nottingham Forest.

The 18-year-old was released by the Reds in the summer and now, after playing more than 40 times for United’s academy teams, he is back with his local team. The Forest development system alumnus Norkett spent a brief period on loan with non-league Gainsborough Trinity in December 2021 and January 2022, although he never made his United debut.

He scored nine goals in the Under-18 Premier League the year before, and in October 2021, he earned his United Under-21 debut against Sunderland in the EFL Trophy. He also scored in the victory over Crystal Palace in the FA Youth Cup in December.

The Academy always celebrates the achievement of our alumni after they have left the club, according to a statement from United. We wish Manni the best of luck at Forest and anticipate seeing him play in Premier League 2 the following year.

Norkett, who auditioned for Leicester in April, is one of three academy recruits for Forest, following Will Brook and Harry Griffiths. Forest’s assistant academy manager, Chris McGuane, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Harry, Manni, and Will to the club at such an exciting time.”

“As we work to significantly enhance our academy offerings, each of them brings their own distinct qualities and experiences, which we hope to add to an already formidable group.”

Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Ethan Galbraith, Di’Shon Bernard, Eric Hanbury, and Charlie Wellens were among the athletes whose summer releases were previously confirmed by United. David de Gea, who is now without a contract extension with United, will become a free agent on Saturday.
