Following his transfer from Chelsea earlier this week, Mason Mount has been seen participating in his first practice at Manchester United.
After Man United agreed to pay Chelsea £55 million plus $5 million in add-ons, Mount signed a deal worth £250,000 per week at Old Trafford through 2028 with the option of an additional year.
During discussions with manager Erik ten Hag, Mount was also offered the No. 7 jersey, which George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, and Cristiano Ronaldo made famous at Old Trafford.
According to Mail Sport sources, Mount is the type of dynamic, energetic player that manager Erik ten Hag, who was heavily involved in the transfer process, was looking for. They believed the No. 7 jersey to be a representation of it.
The England international was seen participating in his first training session on Friday morning. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity at Manchester United.
When Mount joined the group for preseason training at Carrington with boss Ten Hag, he was observed wearing a white Manchester United training top and a pair of black shorts.
As he walked out onto the field, Mount was beaming. Before starting the workout, he was observed practicing his headers and distributing the ball to his teammates.
Donny van de Beek was seen pushing Mount, 24, to the ground during one of their practices. Mount’s new teammates showed no mercy for the England international.
However, Lisandro Martinez and Mount appeared cordial as they hugged and posed for a picture at Carrington before the start of their first preseason practice.
As he adapted to life at Manchester United, Mount was also spotted playing a game of possession with Toby Collyer and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Mount, who cost the club £60 million and received the No. 7 jersey, will definitely be under a lot of pressure because he is the 10th player to receive the uniform since permanent squad numbers were adopted.
In recent years, a number of players, including Memphis Depay and Angel Di Maria, have had difficulty wearing the No. 7 jersey. The strip has also been worn by Antonio Valencia and Michael Owen.
But the midfielder is adamant that he is up to the task. It’s never easy to leave the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will present an exciting new challenge for the next stage of my career, he stated after signing the contract with his new team.
I’ve played against them, so I know how powerful a team I’m joining is, and I’m excited to support this group’s pursuit of major trophies.
Everyone can see the progress the club has achieved under Erik ten Hag. After meeting with the management and learning about his goals, I am eagerly anticipating the upcoming seasons and am prepared to put in the necessary effort.
“I have enormous ambition; I know what it takes to succeed and how amazing it is to win significant trophies.” I will do anything to have that experience at Manchester United once more.
After completing his transfer, the midfielder finishes his 18-year association with Chelsea that began when he enrolled in the academy at the age of six.
After Roman Abramovich was compelled to sell the team to Todd Boehly in 2022, his tenure at the club came to an end as the squad struggled amid the turbulence and numerous changes to both player and staff personnel.
His decision to leave the team he has supported since he was a little lad was motivated by their 12th-place finish in the 2022–23 season as well as the opportunity to play Champions League football for United on a salary that is more than double what they offered.
Hello Chelsea supporters, this may not come as a surprise to you considering the rumors over the last six months, Mount said in a parting address to the team’s supporters. However, it doesn’t make it any simpler for me to inform you that I’ve decided to leave Chelsea.
I wanted to personally thank you for all of your support over the past 18 years because I believe you deserve more than just a written statement. I am aware that some of you won’t agree with my choice, but it is what is best for me at this point in my professional life.
I joined Chelsea when I was six years old, and since then, we have accomplished a lot together, including winning the Youth Cup, my player of the year accolades, the Super Cup, the Club World Cup, and of course that wonderful night when we won the Champions League.
The likes of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro will join Mount in a functional-looking midfield, although United will still be eager to sign a new striker and goalkeeper this summer.
Rasmus Hojlund, a big target from Denmark who should fetch around £50 million, is still up for grabs.
The Red Devils have made a second offer for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana in the neighborhood of £43 million.
