In a recent report, Sport rҽvҽaled that Barcelona has reached a two-year deal with Girona midfielder Oriol Romeu. It is reported that the Catalan club is ready to sign the Spanish midfielder for a period of two years with the option of extending for another 12 months.

Romeu’s solid season in La Liga Romeu had a good campaign at Girona recently as he was in charge of putting up a solid performance for them in the heart of the park. The 31-year-old scored twice in 36 games for his current boss last season in all competitions.

The Ulldecona-born talent has anchored midfield relatively well based on an average of 2.1 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, and 1.5 clearances per game in La Liga. He is even careful when distributing the ball from midfield, as evidenced by his passing success rate of 87.3% in league football (statistics via Whoscored).

His current contract with the Spanish club expires in the summer of 2025. So Barcelona will do well to get a deal for Romeu this season.

Will Romeu be a good signing for Barcelona boss Xavi? Romeu is a tough tackling defender who can handle his tackles to win the ball back to his team in his half. He usually clears the way when needed and can score goals by scoring and assisting a few important goals for his team.

The Spaniard is primarily an organized midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder if required by the coach.

We can expect Romeu to add strength and steel to Barcelona head coach Xavi’s midfield. He already has the experience to help the Catalan club challenge several major trophies over the next few years.

At 31, Romeu may still have time to play to his full potential. So he would be a good signing for Barca in the short term. Furthermore, the Spaniard would be the ideal replacement for Sergio Busquets at the Nou Camp. With all that in mind, Xavi should focus on getting all his hands on Romeu before the end of the summer transfer window.
