Levi Colwill is still being watched by Liverpool despite Chelsea’s request.
Colwill received a new contract offer from the Blues a few days ago, according to the Evening Standard. However, Colwill wants to talk with Mauricio Pochettino about his playing time in the upcoming season before making a decision.
The defender, who had a standout loan stint at Brighton and Hove Albion the previous time around, is wanted by both Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, and Liverpool.
It’s important to know that Chelsea’s roster includes Benoit Badiashile. The Frenchman resembles Colwill quite a little in terms of style and appearance. The former was agreed to right away in January. Can Pochettino keep two players with similar profiles during a season where there may not be much rotation because of the absence of European football?
Because of this, even though it now seems unlikely, Liverpool should keep a watch on the 20-year-old and hope that Chelsea caves and puts him up for sale.
The Reds are doing a terrific job of strengthening their central midfield, but they must remember to bring in a central defender this summer, preferably a left-footer because there isn’t one on the current roster.
In the current hybrid system, where the left-back practically has to play as a left-sided center-back with less mobility to go forward, Jurgen Klopp may find it useful to have a left-footed center-back. Colwill has previous experience taking on such a role.
