As a substitute for Moises Caicedo, Brighton is interested in signing Scott McTominay of Manchester United. The Seagulls are expected to lose the Ecuadorian international this summer as Chelsea and Manchester United compete for his services.
Brighton estimates the 21-year-old to be worth roughly £80 million, but if United and Chelsea go head-to-head, they might be able to get a greater price.
Chelsea reportedly already has Caicedo on personal terms, but they won’t pay Brighton’s £80 million asking price.
United might benefit from that, and according to CBS Sports, Brighton is interested in signing McTominay to fill the void.
Erik ten Hag would want to keep McTominay, but selling him might bring in about £30 million, which would enable the Dutchman to spend in other parts of his team.
With a budget of about £120 million this summer, United won’t be able to pay Caicedo’s £80 million asking price, but employing McTominay—either in a part-exchange deal or by selling him to Brighton—could effectively bring down Caicedo’s cost.
Within the following 48 hours, Mason Mount will complete a £55 million transfer to the team, and United will next try to finalize a deal to acquire Andre Onana.
The club’s original £34.4 million offer for the Cameroon international was turned down by Inter Milan.
Once Mount completes his transfer to Old Trafford, Ten Hag wants a goalkeeper, center forward, and defense.
To raise money, you could sell McTominay, Fred, Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles, Eric Bailly, and Dean Henderson.
