Former Barcelona midfielder Arthur Melo has reminisced about his time at Barcelona, saying he has had great moments at the club and if given the choice to return he would be happy. seeming acceptance.
Arthur, who is still only 26, spoke candidly with Mundo Deportivo, where he shed some light on several aspects, including how he feels about living in Barcelona and playing for the club.
Starting to comment on his life in Barcelona, he says he has some fond memories of the city.
“It’s very beautiful. The city is amazing and it’s a club that I have fond memories of. I lived very happy moments and the memories are all positive,” he said.
Arthur joined Barcelona in the summer of 2018 from Brazilian side Gremio for a reported fee of around €31 million plus €9 million in add-ons. However, despite signing a six-year contract, his tenure was shortened to just two seasons when he was sold to Juventus in exchange for MIralem Pjanic.
When asked about how he feels about his brief time with Barcelona, he said,
“I left when I was about to enter my third season and by then I had more experience than when I came from Brazil. Although it is an important tournament, the Brazilian tournament cannot be compared with the Spanish tournament. I think at that moment I adopted 100% and became a better, more confident player,” he explained.
When asked if he is still in contact with any Barcelona players, he replied by saying,
“Yes of course. I talk a lot with Frenkie De Jong, as well as with ‘Busi’ and with Jordi Alba, who just left. They are great friends. I always try to watch their matches. because I like this style of play.”
The 26-year-old went on to admit that he is a Barcelona fan and if given the chance to return, he would not hesitate.
“Of course there is [I am a Barcelona fan]. I don’t have to hide it. I like the way they play, I love watching their games and I have a lot of love for Barça.
“In the world of football, anything is possible. I’ve lived very good moments here and their play is in my favor,” he added.
The player explained that he is a better player now than when he first arrived at the club.
“When I came to Barça, I was too young. Maybe I’m not mature enough to face certain challenges I face. I am a much better player now than when I came to Barça. Mentally, physically and also because of the way I understand football.
“Today I feel I have gained a lot of experience and it is worthwhile for my own life. On a personal level, going through tough times has taught me a lot.
Arthur has played in La Liga and Serie A while he also got a close look at Premier League football when he was on loan at Liverpool last season, although ιnjury prevented him from playing a single game. When asked about the league he wants to play again, he said:
“I think La Liga. They bet more on possession and playing more technical football. But in the three tournaments, I learned a lot. In Italy, I learned a lot tactically and I also improved physically. And in England the intensity is unbelievable, the game doesn’t stop for even a second.”
Finally, the midfielder also had kind words for the former Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, that he has disappeared from this world.
“He [Messi] is out of this world. Probably the best player in history. Or, at least, one of the top three. I had the great opportunity to share very beautiful moments with him in the dressing room.
“He is a bit more reserved, but he is a person with a very good heart. It’s amazing how he understands the game and how many years he’s been playing at the highest level. That cannot be achieved by anyone,” he concluded.
