President Joan Laporta admits Barca still owes Messi salary

In 2021, Messi left Barca to join PSG. Barca’s dismal financial situation at that time was part of the reason why Messi left the Catalan team. However, two years after leaving Barca, Messi is still owed his salary by his old team.

Barca president, Joan Laporta confirmed the above information. He said the Blaugrana still has payments to Messi until 2025.

Answering La Vanguardia, Laporta said: “Barca still owes Messi’s salary. This debt is related to the terms of the contract that Barca’s previous leadership agreed with Messi. We will delay the payment of the salary. owes Messi until 2025.

Currently, the amount owed to Messi will be included in our salary bill, but that depends on many other factors. With the new regulations of La Liga, the above fee will not affect Barca’s salary fund according to the provisions of the financial fair play (FFP).

We also talked with La Liga BTC about using part of our resources to be able to re-sign Messi. Part of this plan is considered feasible. However, Leo wants a less stressful environment and I understand that.”

Financial difficulties make it difficult for Barca to register players. However, Mr. Laporta said the Catalan side would not sell the player “for free” this summer and would find a way to solve the problem.
