Marcelo, the eccentric left defender for Real Madrid, is typically identifiable by his wild, bushy hair and a variety of tattoos; but, the Brazilian lately had a strange Volkswagen tattoo, which baffled admirers.

Since then, Marcelo has made his body art public.

It is generally known how the 31-year-old went from poverty to riches. His journey from the gloom of Brazil’s favelas to the glittering capital of Spain wasn’t easy.

When questions regarding Marcelo’s peculiar Volkswagen Beetle arm tattoo were raised, the defender explained that it was part of his personal narrative and a way for him to express himself.

He tried everything possible and impossible to see me play professional football. “It was my grandfather who always believed in me and drove me everywhere.” And I have a tattoo of the car my father used to transport me to practice, he told Sport Bild.
