According to Dailymail, Liverpool’s management has informed Leipzig club that they will activate Dominik Szoboszlai’s release clause for £60 million. Before that, the Anfield team closed a personal agreement with the Hungarian midfielder.
Liverpool decisive in activating Szoboszlai’s £60m release clause at Leipzig
Szoboszlai has 32 caps for Hungary and is watched by some of Europe’s top clubs, but Liverpool decided to go big to get the 22-year-old midfielder’s signature.
Last season, Szoboszlai contributed 10 goals and 11 assists for Leipzig. Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano used the familiar “Here We Go” phrase to confirm that the deal between the two sides was completed.
Szoboszlai became the second rookie of the “Red Brigade” in the summer transfer window of 2023. Previously, the Anfield team successfully recruited Mac Allister from Brighton for £ 35 million.
Mac Allister and Szoboszlai promise to help upgrade Liverpool’s midfield. After the 2022/23 season, The Kop team parted ways with veteran midfielders James Milner, Naby Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain, so they needed a replacement. Striker Roberto Firmino also left Liverpool on a free transfer.
Milner spent eight seasons at Liverpool, making 332 appearances, while Firmino made 362 appearances. Keita has made 129 appearances in five seasons since joining from Leipzig, while injured Oxlade-Chamberlain has still made 146 appearances.
