Liverpool is interested in Mainz’s young striker Nelson Weiper.
According to the article, the Reds have been trying to sign Weiper for more than two years because they like his style of play.
The Mainz youth product, now 18, made his senior team debut for them in the 2022–2023 campaign. He was a substitute in nine Bundesliga games and registered two goals (Transfermarkt).
Weiper has made 39 appearances in all competitions for various Mainz youth and B sides, scoring 41 goals and assisting five others. These are some of the young person’s returns.
The German youth international is a physically and aerially powerful striker with excellent play-making skills.
Given that he is still extremely young and might make a significant contribution to the Reds’ youth teams before possibly having an impact on the senior team, it is understandable why Liverpool are interested in him.
The asking price for a player who has now made his senior debut at Mainz is still unknown. Given that he has scored twice in 91 minutes of football in the Bundesliga, the price may have increased.
Liverpool may sign Weiper and hope that he grows into a top number nine here if the transfer fee does not interfere with their business in the summer window with other important additions to the squad.
This agreement could also be signed for commercial reasons. The 18-year-old can be signed by the Reds for a possibly low signing bonus, developed here, and then profitably traded away in a few years. The second aspect of it is that he grows successfully here and eventually joins the senior team.
