According to the Daily Star, United plan to make a £45m offer for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford next week.
Man United are expected to sign a new stopper this summer, with David de Gea likely to leave.
De Gea has made more than 500 appearances for the Old Trafford team and has just won the Golden Glove award in the Premier League. But the 32-year-old goalkeeper has also been criticized for a number of mistakes during the 2022-23 campaign. Not only is De Gea past his prime, but he also doesn’t fit the style of Erik ten Hag.
Because of the uncertainty over De Gea’s future, Manchester United are increasing their interest in Pickford and intend to approach Everton with an offer of £45m next week. According to the Daily Star, Ten Hag considers Pickford as the first choice to replace De Gea and is impressed by the ability of the British star to block and distribute the ball.
Man United are also very optimistic about reaching an agreement with Everton, when the Goodison Park team is still struggling financially despite avoiding relegation to the Championship on the last day of the season.
Pickford made 237 appearances for The Toffees and is England’s No 1 goalkeeper. If he comes to Old Trafford, he will double his current salary.
