Lionel Messi may be heading to Saudi Arabia as the Argentinian is said to have received an offer from Al-Hilal. It could therefore lead to the Messi-Cristiano Ronaldo debate.
Former Al-Hilal coach Emiliano Díaz spoke to TyC Sports, where he added fuel to the debate over whether it should be rekindled if Messi does indeed go to Saudi Arabia.
Díaz praised Ronaldo’s adaptation to football in Saudi Arabia while praising Messi for his achievements, especially winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
“It was difficult for [Ronaldo],” Diaz told the Argentine media. “We faced him and had a good time. With the big clubs, he never made a difference. He’s scored three or four goals for the boys and I see they’re talking about him here. He lost the King’s Cup, he lost the Super Cup, and the tournament.
“There is no comparison with Messi. We faced him less than 3 months ago and I went to see Leo at the World Cup. We’re talking light-year comparisons.”
According to various reports, Messi will decide in the next few hours. For now, Inter Miami seems to be gaining ground against Al-Hilal as a possible destination for the Argentinian outside of Europe.
Furthermore, another note revealed that the 35-year-old wanted his future to be decided before going on vacation, adding to the report that the veteran should decide soon. However, it seems unlikely that competition in Saudi Arabia will happen unless there is an abrupt change.
