As reported by La Porteria, Barcelona has reached a complete agreement with Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer in the summer on a three-year contract. The German player will sign a contract worth 4.5 million euros net/9 million euros total per year.
Gundogan is willing to wait for Barcelona to resolve the economic issue and receive confirmation from La Liga about their viable financial plan.
Barcelona has had an uphill battle to sign Gundogan this summer, with the player constantly between the Catalan side and Manchester City, who are keen to renew the player.
However, at least initially, they were only willing to offer him a one-year extension, compared to Barcelona’s two-year contract, with the option of a further one-year extension.
As the player was eyeing a move to Barcelona, City increased their offer to a fixed two-year contract. The Blaugranes saw that and responded with a three-year contract for the 32-year-old, something very difficult to turn down.
Recently, there were reports that Gundo had reached an agreement to renew his contract, but they were later dismissed by his agent, who set the record for cleaning the air.
“Nothing has been agreed with City or any other club.”
“Recent reports are not true. Ilkay is only focused on the [Champions League] final,” he added.
Gundogan also did not budge from his post, refusing to give even the slightest hint to the media about his future.
“Is the Barcelona deal done? My future is still undecided – there are obviously talks behind the scenes. But I won’t go into details now. I haven’t signed anything yet,” he said.
Gundogan has an important role for City as captain and player this season en route to a treble. He has scored eight goals and provided four assists in 31 Premier League appearances, and most recently won a brace in the FA Cup final against Manchester United.
