Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the situation involving Mason Mount at Chelsea after Manchester United agreed personal terms.
It was the Telegraph who claimed that Manchester United had reached an agreement with the Chelsea No.19 over a contract.
Now – however – Fabrizio Romano has suggested the deal involving Mason Mount is more complicated than many would think.
What’s the story?
Well, the England international only has 12 months remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge and has refused to sign fresh terms.
Therefore – with Chelsea also looking to make several sales this summer – most assumed that an exit for Mount would be agreed fairly quickly.
However – according to Romano – that is far from the case, with those close to the deal shocked by Chelsea’s stance.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the reliable Italian journalist said: “There is a big gap between the two clubs. The negotiation is not easy. People close to the negotiation feel that Chelsea is asking for really big money. They were expecting something different. Let’s see how this conversation will continue between the two clubs, at the moment it’s not too easy between the club’s sides.”
How much Chelsea want for Mount
By the sounds of it, Manchester United and Chelsea are miles apart in their valuation of Mount.
The Daily Mail believe the Blues value their academy graduate at £85m – whereas the Red Devils feel he is worth £55m.
That is obviously a huge gap – £30m to be exact – although it is also said that Erik ten Hag views Mount as a priority signing, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see Manchester United up their bid slightly if talks continue to stall.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as negotiations between Chelsea and Manchester United are expected to ramp up after Saturday’s FA Cup final.
