LeBron James continues to mull over his decision to leave the NBA this offseason by posting another mysterious statement on social media.
James, 38, made his first retirement hint in his 20-year professional career after the Los Angeles Lakers were defeated by the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference finals in four games earlier this month. And in the week that has passed, the All-Star has yet to officially clarify those remarks.
In spite of this, she is as active as ever on social media, commenting on reports that NBA referee Eric Lewis is being looked into for having a “burner” Twitter account. James has also posted numerous other cryptic messages that have only left many observers in the dark.
In response to a fan page honoring his accomplishments, he has since added Jay-Z lyrics. James wrote in a post that “more greatness (is) on the way…” and that we should “appreciate him while he’s still here.”
I expected to be number one on everyone’s list, James wrote in response, posting it to his Instagram story. We’ll see what transpires once I disappear.
Although the motivations behind the most recent cryptic clue are unknown, it is certain that James will need to make decisions during the summer. First, a decision on surgery for a torn foot tendon that he has been playing with for months needs to be made from a health perspective.
The Laker’s future is another issue that needs to be addressed. When the new season begins, James’ two-year, $97m contract will become effective.
He can opt out of the second year and become a free agent in 2024. James can now link up with his oldest son Bronny should he decide to enter the draft after a year of college at USC by choosing not to participate in that.
James is also the focus of trade rumors after once more being named to the third team of All-NBA. One proposed option that might make it easier to stay in Florida and possibly increase the likelihood of winning a championship is the Golden State Warriors.
The chance to eventually reunite with Kyrie Irving, an unrestricted free agency this summer, in Lakerland after the team decided against the possibility at the trade deadline, would also influence James. There will be more front-office choices after that.
James can give them one of those by honoring his agreement and resolving to stay. As they enter the offseason, only he, Anthony Davis, Jared Vanderbilt, and Max Christie are still under contract.
